張新發先生(1918-1995) 生平事蹟與貢獻

1918年出生於花蓮，在物質匱乏的年代，秉持「自學而後翻轉生命」的信念，積極向學，於台灣商工學校(現開南技術學院) 畢業後，返鄉奉獻，投入花蓮菸酒會社(現菸酒配銷所) 、花蓮港信用組合(現花蓮第一信用合作社)等要職服務，施展長才。

之後，張新發與張黃紅女士結婚,育有六男四女。以樂觀向上的毅力，在台灣光復後兩年，1947年創立建發行，夫妻倆胼手胝足，砥礪前進，商譽有成眾望所歸，1961年擔任花蓮縣商業會理事長，1962年創立花蓮縣張廖簡宗親會並擔任理事長。

為振興台灣東部繁榮，力倡交通發展，積極投入交通事業，1974年設立並擔任花蓮汽車客運公司董事長，1977年接任花蓮第一信用合作社監事主席，1980年擔任花蓮汽車貨運公司董事長，不僅帶動花蓮商業成長，促進運輸業、地方金融業、日用什貨業等多元發展，對交通發展貢獻良多，同時寫下台灣東部交通事業發展的里程碑。

張新發先生生性簡樸、身體力行的人格特質，勇於提攜後進，樂善好施，是一位道地花蓮誕生的創業家，在艱困的年代，極力整合商業團體致力團結，犧牲奉獻，掏囊解困，首創地區商展，帶動商業促銷風氣，做到創新開拓、奠定交通事業基石，並推動文化發展做出貢獻，是一位卓越的企業家。

Chang ShinFa was born in Hualien in 1918. During that hard time with limited resources, he held on to his belief in moving upwards through education. After graduating from Taiwan Commercial and Technical Institute, he returned to his hometown. Employed by the Hualien Tobacco and Liquor Commission, and later Hualien Harbor Trust, he worked in many key positions while making significant contributions.

He was married to Chang HuangHong and raised 6 sons and 4 daughters. In 1947, he and his wife founded JianFa which grew to be a successful business. With sterling reputation, he was elected to be the head of the Hualien Chamber of Commerce in 1961. He founded the ChangLiaoJian Family Union and acted as its chair since 1962.

To help develop the eastern part of Taiwan, he recognized the need for transportation. He founded and acted as the chairman of Hualien Bus Company in 1974. He founded and acted as the chairman of Hualien Cargo Transportation Company in 1980. Through these efforts, he has propelled the development of Hualien in all sectors. His contributions to the local community is highly regarded.

By nature, Chang ShinFa was a frugal and proactive man. His mentoring of young people and outstanding generosity to local causes exemplifies a preeminent entrepreneurial businessman. He helped form unity among members of the local community, encouraged social welfare with his own selfless contributions, established local trade shows, and led positive trends. Not only he helped build the transportation foundation for Hualien, he also contributed to much of cultural progress in this community.
